Jennifer Alejandro, sophomore communications major at Texas A&M International University, received an early holiday present this year.

Alejandro recently won an iPad2 for a video entry she submitted to a contest conducted on University social media. Designed to promote the University’s new identity, ‘Powered by TAMIU,’ among the student population, the contest required students to create a video of campus life communicating the power of TAMIU to change students’ lives.

“I feel really enthusiastic about having won because I did this by myself,” Alejandro said, “It’s something that I earned. This can also help me in my career as a communications major since I can put the fact that I won on my résumé.”

Alejandro’s video shows different aspects of campus life, including an athletic event, a lecture in a classroom, a computer lab, students working in their art studio, flags of countries represented by the student population and the TAMIU bookstore.

It says, “I feel ‘Powered by TAMIU’ when it allows me to give my best everywhere I go.”

Alejandro will study abroad in Taiwan in Fall 2012.

Another student, Teresita De La Torre, senior art major, won a Kindle and received honorable mention for her entry.

Her video entry consisted of over 800 animated pictures that she took with the help of her friends during an entire day. She states, “I’m ‘Powered by TAMIU’ when I am at the studio.”

De La Torre, who has already studied abroad in Italy, said she will take her Kindle to read when she travels to Argentina for another Study Abroad program in Spring 2012.

“I think I’m also ‘Powered by TAMIU’ when I get a scholarship to travel all over the world,” De La Torre said, “This is the second time I’m studying abroad, and it is in times like these that I feel TAMIU is the greatest. It’s an international University and I really feel that I’m living that international part.”
