A chance to learn the intricacies of Spanish Dance while supporting student scholarships will be offered this Fall at Texas A&M International University.

“Spanish Dance Techniques” will be offered every Tuesday beginning January 31 through April 24 from 7:30 – 9 p.m. in the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts, room 122.

The continuing education course will be lead by beloved local dance veteran instructor Altagracia Azios-García and Dr. Minita Ramírez, TAMIU vice president for Student Success.

“We wanted to find a way to channel our mutual love of Spanish dance into an opportunity to not only share that love, but to help support student scholarships here at the University,” Dr. Ramírez explained.

The course will be coordinated by the University’s Continuing Education Office, part of the Binational Center. It will focus on various techniques used in Spanish dance including zapateado (footwork), brazeo (arm movements) and castanets.

Students will work on these techniques and accompanying choreography without performance opportunities. The course cost is $150.  For non-students and staff, a parking permit ($18) will be required.
