Texas A&M International University’s ROTC Club will hold a 5K Run and Walk Saturday, April 28 at 8 a.m. from the practice field located across from  the Residential Learning Community, to assist with medical expenses incurred by TAMIU ROTC Cadet Eva Martínez.

Martínez, who sustained serious injuries in March after she was ejected from a truck that rolled over, has been released from the hospital and is slowly starting to resume her normal life, said Kevin Zúñiga, vice president for TAMIU’s ROTC Club.

Registration for the 5K Run and Walk starts at 6 a.m. and is $15 per participant.

“I encourage everyone to participate in this event,” said Zúñiga, “It’s TAMIU students helping one of their own. She is also a member of Laredo’s community and was assigned to the Texas National Guard Chemical Unit here.”

The first 150 paid participants receive a free T-shirt, Zúñiga said.
