Texas A&M International University president Dr. Ray Keck was introduced as this year’s Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra Annual Celebrity Chef Gala honoree at a press conference held at TAMIU’s Helen Richter Watson Gallery Tuesday.

The 3rd Annual Celebrity Chef Gala – Texas Style is Friday September 14, 2012 at the Laredo Civic Center Ballroom. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. with food sampling beginning at 7:30.

Keck said he was extremely proud to be honored by the LPO.

“The Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra is near and dear to my heart, and has played a vital role in the evolution of this community,” said Dr. Keck, “I am extremely proud to be selected to be the honoree at this event.”

This year’s celebrity Chef Gala will have a Texas twist, with all chefs preparing Texas-style foods. The LPO board announced that well-known local chef Pete Mims is this years’ Lead Chef.

Maestro Brendan Townsend, LPO music director, paid tribute to the many volunteers throughout the community who work diligently to ensure that the orchestra continues to perform regularly in the city.

Angeline Townsend, leading the organizational committee, promised the Texas twist to this celebrity event would be evident in everything from décor to live music.  Mick Cruz and Diamond Back will entertain attendees.

The orchestra has once again secured the services of Robert Summers to conduct a live auction of celebrity chef dining packages.

“The foot stomping begins when Mick and the band start up at 8:30 p.m.,” added Brendan Townsend who joked about needing to buy a new pair of jeans.

All proceeds from the Celebrity Chef Gala support the ongoing mission of the Laredo Philharmonic Orchestra to enrich, enhance and educate the community through concerts and musical educational outreach.
