The Autism Intervention Center, a first for TAMIU and Laredo, opened in February 2010. The Center is dedicated to providing diagnostic evaluations and evidence-based intervention services for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and their families from Laredo and the surrounding communities.

About 1 in 88 children of all racial, ethnic and socioeconomic groups have been identified with ASD, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Those who are identified with ASD have average medical expenditures 4.1 – 6.2 times greater than for those without ASD.

For more information about the Center, visit its dedicated website at tamiu.edu/autismcenter, call 956.326.HOPE (4673) or visit offices in Dr. Billy F. Cowart Hall, room 125.
