Guest Artists to Perform at TAMIU Sept. 7

A combination of low brass and organ music will fill the Texas A&M International University Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall Friday, Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m.

Admission is free and open to the public.

Guest artists are Dr. Eileen Meyer Russell, associate professor of music, Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas, and Dr. Don McManus, organist and music director at Grace Episcopal Church, Georgetown, Texas.

In addition to her work at Southwestern University, Dr. Russell is the principal trombonist in the Round Rock (Texas) Symphony Orchestra. She has published several articles about brass pedagogy and on the use of technology in the classroom and the applied music studio in several publications. Russell has also presented clinics, papers and performed throughout the U.S., Germany and Jamaica.

Russell earned her bachelor’s and doctor of music degrees at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., and her master’s from University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Dr. McManus served as organist/choirmaster at St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church in Lufkin for 25 years and also served as assistant professor of music theory at Stephen F. Austin State University. After he “retired,” he was called as bicentennial director of music ministries at the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City.

He holds a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in organ performance from Baylor University.
