Students who may have been delaying their pursuit of higher education have a half-million new reasons to consider Texas A&M International University this fall.

A local donor provided a $500,000 gift to TAMIU Wednesday in support of student scholarships, announced Candy Hein, TAMIU vice president for Institutional Advancement. The University will respect the donor’s request for privacy.

“We are deeply grateful to this donor who is keenly interested in helping our students realize their higher education dreams. Over 70% of our students qualify for financial aid, often outstripping available resources. This remarkable gift has the potential to make a difference in the lives of many TAMIU students,” Hein said.

The timing of the gift is especially fortuitous, she noted.

“Our fall semester begins Thursday, Aug. 23 and late registration continues through Aug. 29. We encourage all interested students to visit our Office of Financial Aid to explore this opportunity,” she said.

For additional information, visit the Office of Financial Aid in the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center, Suite 214 or email financialaid@tamiu.edu. Because of high student volume during registration week, in-person visits are strongly recommended. Office hours are from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday and from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

University Information is also available on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube and the University’s free app for smartphones and tablets is available for download at tamiu.edu
