Are you fascinated by fitness?  Have you ever considered a career in the fitness industry as a personal trainer?

An eight-week hybrid, online and in person course being offered by Texas A&M International University’s Office of Continuing Education can help lead to certification as a Personal Trainer.

The online course is offered in conjunction with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and includes 80 hours of course time and an internship with Gold’s Gym of Laredo.

Kimberly Martin del Campo, TAMIU director of Continuing Education, said the course offering is aligned with local and national employment needs for Personal Trainers.

“The median salary of a Personal Trainer is $54,200 per year. Annual earnings of $100,000 have been reported for the top 10% of trainers. Employment of Fitness Workers is expected to increase 29 percent over the 2008-18 decade, which is much faster than the average of other occupations. These workers are expected to gain jobs because of an increasing number of people spending time and money on fitness and more businesses recognizing the benefits of health and fitness programs for their employees,” Martin del Campo explained.

The program, to be offered October 22, 2012- Dec 22, 2012, aligns scientific content areas, laboratory performance domains and occupational skills for students to get a blend of classroom and hands-on learning, she said.

“Upon successful completion of the NCCA-accredited credentialing exam, graduates earn the distinction as a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) from NASM,” she noted.

Course cost is $1,300 and enrollment is limited. Payment plans are available as well as loans.  Please contact the Office of Continuing Education directly for this information.

Since 1987, the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) has been a global leader in providing evidence-based certifications and advanced credentials to health and fitness professionals.
