TAMIU Celebrates Spirit Week Feb. 4 - 7

Show your support and connect with old and new Dustdevil friends during Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) “Spirit Week 2013,” Monday, Feb. 4 – Thursday, Feb. 7.

Most events are free of charge and all are open to the public.

The TAMIU Student Government Association, TAMIU Campus Activities Board, TAMIU Office of the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, TAMIU Alumni Association, TAMIU Division of Student Success, and TAMIU Office of Student Affairs (OSA) sponsor “Spirit Week.”

“Spirit Week is centered upon bringing all current and former Dustdevils together for a week full of activities and opportunities to connect with new friends and reconnect with old friends,” said Mayra G. Hernández, associate director, student conduct and community engagement.

The celebration kicks off with a “Shopping Cart Decorating Party,” Monday, Feb. 4 from noon – 5 p.m. in the Student Center (SC) ballroom.

Voting for Mr. and Ms. TAMIU 2013 begins Monday. Students can vote online at onecard.tamiu.edu through Wednesday, Feb. 6. Videos of the candidates are available at www.youtube.com/txamiu

Everyone is encouraged to wear maroon and silver all day to show his or her school spirit and pride. Students should keep an eye on the OSA Facebook page, facebook.com/txamiu.osa, to find out where to win a free TAMIU T-shirt.

The shopping carts will be the center of attention during the “Student Government Association Shopping Cart Parade,” Tuesday, Feb. 5 from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. at the SC main entrance.

Wednesday, Feb. 6 events include: “Frame Yourself,” 11 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., SC rotunda; Campus Activity Board Pep Rally, 12:30 – 2:3- p.m., SC rotunda.

The TAMIU Office of Student Affairs and Division of Student Success Tailgater is scheduled Thursday, Feb. 7 from 3 – 6 p.m. on the Kinesiology-Convocation Building’s  front lawn.

TAMIU Women’s Basketball will take on the Newman University Jets in the KCB at 5:30 p.m. The Men’s game starts at 7:30 p.m.

These events lead up to the coronation of Mr. and Ms. TAMIU 2013 during the TAMIU Men’s Basketball game halftime show Thursday, Feb. 7 at 8:30 p.m. in the KCB.

General admission to basketball games is $5 and free for children and students with a valid TAMIU ID.

A Coronation Ball in the SC Ballroom will follow the game at 9 p.m.

“Make sure you wear your boots and jeans for line dancing,” advised Hernández.
