TAMIU Planetarium Presents ‘Lasermania’ Feb. 28 – March 2

Laser beams and musical classics from the last five decades will transform the Texas A&M International University Lamar Bruni Vergara Planetarium into a delightful entertainment center Thursday, Feb. 28 – Saturday, March 2.

‘Laser Mania,’ a series of entertainment laser shows that combine music, digital animation, laser beam work and visual effects, will be featured on the Planetarium’s 45-foot dome to a combination of various music.

Tickets are $6 for the general public and $5 for children and students.

Gerardo Pérez, Planetarium director, said that the shows are for all ages and will present different music during each day of the show.

Following are show dates, times and information:

* Thursday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. – At 7 p.m., the audience will hear music from over five decades. Hearts, eyes and ears will enjoy the dazzling colors and laser art set to a collection of musical delights in an immersive visual environment. The 8 p.m. show will feature laser and music by U2, presenting the band’s timeless classics and modern hits.

* Friday, March 1, 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. – Themed “LaseRetro,” the 7 p.m. show will celebrate the New Wave era of the 1980’s. Music will include those by The Police, Tears for Fears, Depeche Mode, The Cure, INXS and Frankie Goes to Hollywood. At 7 p.m., the audience will be treated to “Classic Rock Laser,” a classic rock n’ roll laser light experience featuring music by AC/DC, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Aerosmith, Queen, Pink Floyd, Journey and Van Halen.

* Saturday, March 2 at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. – The 5 p.m. show, themed ‘Laser Beatles,’ will take the audience back to a different time in history to re-experience and remember the evolution of the musical phenomenon known as The Beatles. At 6 p.m., Planetarium visitors will experience iPOP laser, presenting music from today’s Pop charts mixed with a classic from Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5. The final laser show at 7 p.m. will be Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon,” a show based on the band’s 1973 album of humanitarian, political and philosophical empathy. The show is one of the most startling and bizarre laser light shows of all time.
