Bring the wonders of the universe to your child and he or she might grow up to be a rocket scientist. Registration is currently underway for the Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) Lamar Bruni Vergara Planetarium Spring Space Camp scheduled for Monday, March 11 – Wednesday, March 13.

Deadline to register is Saturday, March 2.

The camp is open to children ages 6 – 10.

“It’s a camp to introduce children to space science with activities which enable children to work as young scientists, engineers, mathematicians and even creative writers,” said Laura C. Jimenez, associate director, LBV Planetarium.

“Children will also have the opportunity to participate in different physical activities as part of NASA’s ‘Train Like An Astronaut Program,” Jimenez added.

Other subjects include astronomy and rocketry.

Cost is $100 per child and includes lunch and a camp T-shirt.

Camp participants will have the opportunity to work with LEGO robotics and build simple to complex model rockets.

“We are very excited to bring this type of camp to our community. There are not a lot of programs which offer these types of activities to keep children engaged in science, particularly space science,” Jimenez said.

To register in person, stop by the Lamar Bruni Vergara Science Center, room 301 or Anthony J. and Georgia A. Pellegrino Hall, room 301; by phone, call 956.326.2463 or 956.326.3068 or online at https://secure.touchnet.com/C20208_ustores/web/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCTID=585
