Texas A&M International University's (TAMIU) nationwide search for a new Athletic Director has been narrowed to three from an original pool of 25 candidates.

Search Committee Chair Juan Castillo, the University’s vice president for Finance and Administration, said the Committee believes it has identified three strong candidates for the AD position.

"We have been very impressed by the calibre of candidates that have applied for consideration and believe that our national search has yielded three very viable candidates," Castillo said.

The candidates and their current professional affiliations are:

Joseph Biedron, Associate Athletics Director for External Advancement, Texas A&M University - Kingsville

Edwin “Duke” Dickerson, Director, Clinical Development and Medical Affairs, Boehringer Ingelheim

Gilbert “Griz” Zimmerman, Director of Athletics, Lake Erie College.

Castillo said the Search Committee is now finalizing a schedule for each of the three candidates to visit the campus and meet with members of the Committee in addition to the University community and community at large.

After the visits, the Committee will provide its recommendation to TAMIU president Dr. Ray Keck.  The University hopes to make an offer in May and have the new Dustdevils AD join the University soon thereafter.

The new AD will replace retiring Dr. Leonard Nardone, TAMIU’s third AD for its 11-sport Athletics program.

Nardone joined TAMIU in 2010 after serving as associate dean for University Sports at the American University of Beirut.  He previously served as Athletics Director at State University of New York, Genesee, Sheldon Jackson College in Alaska and Philadelphia University.
