Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) will remember fallen alumni, students, faculty and staff at the third annual “Celebration of Life” memorial observation Thursday, April 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the TAMIU Center for Fine and Performing Arts’ (CFPA) Recital Hall.

TAMIU director of Alumni Relations Yelitza Howard said the occasion affords the University a chance to pause and reflect on those who have shared their lives with the University.

“The event provides an opportunity for members of the community to honor and celebrate the lives of alumni and retired faculty and staff of TAMIU and to move forward together,” Howard noted.

The University’s sponsoring Office of Alumni Relations is encouraging all those who have lost a TAMIU student, staff, faculty or alumni member to be part of the event. Photos of individuals to be honored can be submitted by email to resvpevents@tamiu.edu.  Individuals interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP by April 5 by email to rsvpevents@tamiu.edu, or call 956.326.4483.

The University will honor more than 20 individuals.  Alumni will recite poems and read the names of the fallen, and performances will be offered by the TAMIU Choir and the Memorial Bells of First United Methodist Church. University president Dr. Ray Keck and Laredo Theater Guild International (LTGI) president Joe Arciniega will deliver remarks.  A small reception for family and friends follows in the CFPA lobby.

This is the third year the University has hosted the “Celebration of Life,” and Howard expressed her interest in keeping the tradition an annual one.

“We want this to continue to be a tradition in our University’s history as it allows family and friends of the honorees to take time to remember those who are no longer with us,” Howard said.

University representatives will be present to help answer questions on how guests can commemorate their loved ones further at TAMIU.
