Phi Kappa Phi Inducts 67 at TAMIU

In a recent ceremony, Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) Phi Kappa Phi Chapter 296 initiated 67 new members in a ceremony held in the TAMIU Student Center.

Phi Kappa Phi is the nation's oldest and largest all-disciplinary honor society. Presiding over ceremonies was Dr. Lola Orellano Norris, Chapter president.

Highlight of the afternoon ceremony was remarks by James V. Cortez (’09) about his achievements as a Phi Kappa Phi member and his plans to complete a one-year internal medicine training program in Nevada before attending a preparation for a career in diagnostic radiology. After completion, he plans to return to Laredo to serve the community as both a radiologist and school board member.

Graduate students initiated included Manuel Barragán, Fabiola Erhard, Amelia Solís and Cynthia M. Villarreal.

Undergraduate students initiated included Ignacio R. Alaníz, Carla Álvarez, Eduardo U. Anaya, Deyanira Aparicio, Philip A. Balli, Gisela Bayarena, Barbara I. Benavides, Laura N. Berrones, Evelyn Camero, María G. Coronado, Karen De La Garza, Ericka De La Torre, Joseph Farias, Sandra Yvonne Fields, Frank J. Figueroa, David E. Flores, Myrna J. García, Thelma M. García, Amanda M. Garza, Amanda M. Garza, Roy J. González, Franz Gordillo, Isabel C. Guevara, Janet M. Haverkamp, Rebecca D. Leza, Lyanne A. Mancillas, Eileen M. Martínez and  Melissa L. Martínez.

In addition, Wendy Bear, Alfredo Cepeda, Gabriela García, Wendy J. García, Valerie Garza, Guillermo A. González, José Jacobo, Erika Medina, Fredo Rodríguez, Lorena E. Valero and Lorena Zapata.

Faculty, staff and alumni initiates included Manuel Barragán, Fabiola Erhard, Amelia Solís, Cynthia M. Villarreal, Gerardo Alva, Gina De La Miyar González, Candace Baker, Frances P. Bernat, Anna B. Cieslicka and Andres E. Rivas-Chávez.

Founded in 1897, The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi annually inducts over 32,000 student, faculty, professional staff and university alumni members from more than 280 select colleges and universities.

Those elected to membership include the upper 7.5 percent of last-term juniors and the upper 10 percent of seniors, the upper 10 percent of graduate students, along with outstanding faculty and alumni.

The PKP motto is "Let the Love of Learning Rule Humanity."
