Extraordinary Artist Wu at TAMIU Sunday for Steinway Series

One of the up-and-coming talents in classical music, according to Musical America, will perform at the upcoming Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) 2013 Steinway Series. Di Wu, pianist, will bring her talents to the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall, Sunday April 7 at 3 p.m.

Admission is free and open to the public.

The program includes music by Bach, Chopin, Debussy, Scriabin, Liszt, Beethoven, Ravel and Brahms.

Wu has performed to audiences all around the world. The Wall Street Journal praised her as “a most mature and sensitive pianist” and the Philadelphia Inquirer was taken by her “charisma, steely technique, and keen musical intelligence.”

Born in China but now based in the U.S., Wu made her professional debut at the age of 14 with the Beijing Philharmonic and has appeared with orchestras such as the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, Hamburg Philharmoniker, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Orchestra and many more.

She also performs as a recitalist and has made debuts in Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center. Wu has appeared in music centers in Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and San Francisco and often performs in Europe and throughout major Asian venues. In her most recent performance in Tokyo, she performed before an audience of more than 11,000.

Wu studied at the Manhattan School of Music, the Curtis Institute and earned a Master of Music degree at Julliard. She has also won many awards including the 2009 Van Cliburn Competition, the Julliard School’s Petschek Award, the Virtuosi Prize at Lisbon’s prestigious Vendome Competition and the Astral Artists’ 2007 National Auditions.
