Guest Vocalist Tucker Featured in Tuesday TAMIU Recital

Dr. Eric Hoy Tucker, bass-baritone of Central Michigan University, will be presented in guest recital Tuesday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Texas A&M International University’s Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall.

He will be accompanied by Dr. Larysa Davis, TAMIU artist-in-resident and pianist and Dana Crabtree, TAMIU voice instructor and soprano.  The recital is free of charge and open to the public.

The evening will include selections from Gershwin, Handel, Mozart, Schubert, and Strauss, among others.

Dr. Tucker, a native of Fairmont, WV, has enjoyed a performing and teaching career both nationally and internationally.  He has earned performance degrees from Florida State University, the University of Illinois, and The Ohio State University. 

He has taught and performed in China, Italy, and Peru as well as across the United States and makes his Carnegie Hall debut next month as soloist in Haydn’s Creation.

Tucker was the baritone soloist for the 2010 World’s Fair performance of the Faure Requiem in Shanghai, China.  He has sung with many regional orchestras around the United States and has performed extensively as a recitalist.  His operatic portrayals range from Mozart’s Figaro, Leporello, Sarastro, and Bartolo to Puccini’s Colline. 

As a voice teacher/opera director, Tucker has served on the faculties of the University of North Dakota and Northern Arizona University.  He is currently professor of Voice and Opera at Central Michigan University. His students regularly sing with the Chicago Lyric, San Francisco Opera, Virginia Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, Arizona Opera, Kentucky Opera, Opera Carolina, and the Merola Apprenticeship Program. 

Some have been featured as leading roles with the national touring productions of Beauty and The Beast and Les Miserables.  Additionally, his students sing musical theatre with regional and national companies.
