TAMIU Hosts Computer Technology Conference for Educators Monday

Texas A&M International University's College of Education-LEAD Grant and Office of Information Technology will host the Educational Technology Leadership Conference (ETLC) presented by The Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) on Monday, June 17 from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. in Student Center Ballroom, 203.

Welcoming over 60 administrators from around the area, ETLC promises to increase educators’ understanding of the role of technology in academics as well as current trends affecting school leaders today.

Over 20 concurrent sessions will be offered, including topics such as iPad 101, Internet Safety in Today’s World, Break the QR Code and Digital Citizenship.

Keynote speaker for the event is Dr. Stephen Waddell.

A long time educator, Dr. Waddell was named Superintendent of the Year in 2008 by the TCEA and was named State Finalist Superintendent of the Year in 2008 by the Texas Association of School Boards. He is a member of the Advisory Committee for the Consortium for School Networking John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Grant and the Texas Visioning Institute.

TCEA is an association dedicated to the improvement of teaching and learning through the use of computers and technology. It is the largest state organization devoted to the use of technology in education. Founded in 1980, the organization has been very active throughout Texas in supporting instructional technology.

Conference chairs are: Dr. Patricia Abrego, TAMIU director of instructional technology and distance education, and Dr. Patricia Uribe, TAMIU assistant professor of education. Dr. Abrego is Area 1 Director for TCEA.
