The Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) community boasts its share of leaders and now it will share its knowledge of leadership with the rest of the community starting with the Cigarroa High School Band leadership team.

Starting Monday, July 29 and ending Wednesday, July 31, TAMIU will hold the TAMIU Band Leadership Camp for the Cigarroa High School Band leadership team. They will meet from 9 a.m. – noon, 1 – 5 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m.

“The camp is designed to focus and develop the leadership and team building skills of high school band ‘team leaders.’ This is being set up for Cigarroa High School Band, but our plan is to offer this to other high schools in Laredo starting next summer,” explained Dr. James Moyer, TAMIU director of band and percussion studies.

Students will participate in sessions on music, marching techniques, leadership, team building and time management.

Camp cost is $50 per student and includes room and meals.

Students will stay on campus for two nights, so participants should pack bedding, clothes for three days, water bottles, notebooks and pens and sunscreen with an SPF 30 or higher.

“This first camp is already in place and enrollment is closed, but we will have a special web page with links for TAMIU Summer Music Camps next year,” Dr. Moyer added.
