TAMU Student Awarded Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) junior José Jacobo was recently awarded a Study Abroad Grant worth $1,000 from The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Jacobo is one of 50 students nationwide to receive the award.

An accounting major, Jacobo plans to use the Study Abroad Grant to study in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and France.

In 2011, Jacobo studied abroad in Chile with TAMIU’s “Reading the Globe” Program and the following year studied in China with Dr. Haibo Wang, TAMIU associate professor, division of international business and technology studies.

Since Phi Kappa Phi’s inception of the Study Abroad Grant more than $500,000 has been awarded to students.  Founded in 1897, Phi Kappa Phi is the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Phi Kappa Phi annually inducts approximately 32,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni.

Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants are designed to support undergraduates as they seek to expand knowledge and experience in their academic fields.  TAMIU’s Phi Kappa Phi Chapter 296 was formed in 2005.
