U.S. News & World Report Ranks TAMIU in 2014 Guide

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) has been ranked by US News and World Report in its  “2014 Best Colleges Rankings.”

TAMIU president Dr. Ray Keck said the University is honored by the recognition programs delivered by its gifted faculty have been accorded, and looks forward to continued excellence.

“It is tremendous to have our faculty’s efforts on behalf of our students recognized, but we seek continued and greater excellence still. Our students’ futures are the primary beneficiary of this excellence,” Dr. Keck said.

TAMIU was ranked 35 in the Top Public Schools (Regional Universities West) category of 1800 institutions surveyed.

According to the Report, those included are the highest ranked public colleges and universities in the “2014 Best Colleges Rankings, ” listed according to their ranking category and also divided by geographic area of country.

TAMIU was also ranked 87 among regional universities (West). Regional universities are those like TAMIU that offer a full range of undergrad programs, master's programs and a few doctoral programs.

TAMIU was also recognized in new listing categories for the 2014 edition:

Freshman Retention Rate:  71%.

Least Debt, Class of 2012 ($17,644 average).

Campus International Student Population (2%).

Campuses with Large, Need-Based Financial Aid Package ($9,669 aid package, with 67% of student need met).

Campus with High Six-Year Grad Rate:  39%.

Campus with Class Size Fewer than 20 Students (33.5%).

On the U.S. News and World Report website, “2014 Best Colleges” authors note significant changes this year to their ranking methodology which reduces the weight of input factors while increasing the weight of output measures. Some 16 indicators of academic excellence are considered.

In addition to the U.S. News and World Report  ranking, The Chronicle of Higher Education named TAMIU among the nation’s fastest-growing public master’s institutions in its “Almanac of Higher Education 2013; Washington Monthly Magazine ranked TAMIU in its Top 5% of national Master’s Universities and College Database named TAMIU Third in the nation among top Colleges and Universities that support Hispanic students.
