The new Texas A&M International University “Master Performers Series @TAMIU 2013-14” ushers in with a performance by internationally acclaimed pianist, Dr. Joachim Reinhuber, Thursday, Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall.

Admission is free and open to the public.

The Master Performers Series @TAMIU is the latest series offered by the TAMIU College of Arts and Sciences Department of Fine and Performing Arts.

“The new series replaces and expands on the Steinway Series and the Organ Recital Series. It not only includes pianists and organists, but other instrumentalists as well,” said Dr. Fritz Gechter, TAMIU associate professor, piano and music.

“The goal is to enrich the Laredo community by offering classical recitals featuring any instrument or voice,” added Dr. Gechter.

The inaugural recital by Dr. Reinhuber will feature music written by Johannes Brahms, Gabriel Faure, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Frederick Chopin.

Reinhuber, assistant professor of piano at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, was born in Frankfurt, Germany. His first teacher, Franz Calvelli-Adorno, was his grandfather, and he continued his studies, eventually earning a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance at The University of Texas at Austin.

Throughout the fall and spring, Reinhuber will tour extensively through Texas and the U.S. with his solo recital. Additionally, he will give a performance of Brahms’ “Piano Concerto No. 1” with the Laredo Philharmonic in January 2014.

The “Master Performers Series @TAMIU” is made possible by the generous support of Housing & Residence Life at TAMIU.

The next installment is scheduled for the Spring with additional recitals given by master performers.
