TAMIU-IBC Speaker Series Examines US-Mexico Relations Oct. 16

The Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) International Bank of Commerce 2013-2014 Keynote Speaker Series returns with U.S.-Latin American relations expert, Dr. Shannon K. O’Neil, presenting “Two Nations Indivisible: México, the United States, and the Road Ahead,” Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Center (SC) Ballroom (SC 203). A reception will start at 7 p.m.

Admission is free and open to the public. Translation services, from English to Spanish, will also be available.

Dr. O’Neil is senior fellow for Latin America Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations, an independent, non-partisan membership organization, think tank, and publisher. Her expertise includes U.S. – Latin American relations, trade, energy, and immigration.

O’Neil’s keynote speech is based on her book, “Two Nations Indivisible: México, the United States, and the Road Ahead” (Oxford University Press, 2013). In the book, O’Neil examines the political, economic, and social transformations México has undergone over the last three decades and why these changes matter for the U.S.

The book is currently available at the TAMIU Bookstore and will be available for sale the night of the event. A book signing will follow the lecture.

O’Neil has lived and worked in México and Argentina and was a Fulbright Scholar and a Justice, Welfare, and Economics Fellow at Harvard University. She taught Latin American politics at Columbia University and worked in the private sector as an equity analyst at Indosuez Capital and Credit Lyonnais Securities. She holds a BA and MA in international relations, both from Yale University, and a Ph.D. in government from Harvard University.

This Speaker Series presents practical and targeted lectures imparted by distinguished leaders, recognized experts and outstanding scholars in the trade and business arenas.

It brings to the University individuals of exceptional accomplishment and expertise to enhance the academic experience of TAMIU students, faculty and the community.
