Get your costumes ready and join the other monsters, fairies, cowboys, witches and trekkers for the annual Texas A&M International University “Halloween Fest” Wednesday, Oct. 30 from noon – 6 p.m. in the Kinesiology-Convocation Building (KCB) lawn.

Admission is free and open to the public.

Halloween Fest is a part of Wicked Wellness Week, collaboration by the TAMIU Division of Student Success (Student Health Services, Student Conduct and Community Engagement, Recreational Sports, and Student Orientation, Leadership and Engagement), Campus Activities Board (CAB) and area partners, the City of Laredo Health Department and Laredo Medical Center.

“Wicked Wellness Week is a week of events, functions, and co-curricular programs provided at no charge to the members of the TAMIU community to enhance knowledge and develop awareness on maintaining a healthy lifestyle,” said Miguel Treviño, director, Student Orientation, Leadership and Engagement.

The following activities are scheduled:

Monday, Oct. 28: “Blood Sucking Monday” – South Texas Blood and Tissue Center will be at the Student Center (SC) parking lot taking donations from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

“What You Don’t See Can Hurt You” – sexually transmitted diseases awareness in the SC rotunda from 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Tuesday, Oct. 29: “Tales from the Crypt” – A doctor’s panel from noon – 1 p.m., SC Ballroom.

Wednesday, Oct. 30: “Halloween Fest 2013” – an evening of goodies and fright, noon – 6 p.m., KCB lawn.

Thursday, Oct. 31: “Fight the Fright” – Flu vaccines and STD screenings in the SC Rotunda starting at 11 a.m.

Although programs are primarily for students, “Halloween Fest” is open to the public.

“We welcome students and community members who want to learn more about their health and changes they can make to their lives to live longer and better,” said Treviño.

Fest participants can buy tickets for 50 cents to purchase treats while they enjoy activities planned by CAB.

Students who go to Wicked Wellness Week events can earn credit towards the Health and Wellness Dimension within TAMIU Trailblazers.

TAMIU Trailblazers is a co-curricular leadership initiative that serves as a student’s road map to success. The Trailblazers program enables registered TAMIU students to access co-curricular programs that complement classroom learning.
