Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) vice president for Student Success Dr. Minita Ramírez will serve as a guest panelist for KLRN’s Community Cinema advance screening  of the documentary, “The State of Arizona” Thursday, Nov. 14 in San Antonio.

The event is open to the public and free of charge at 6:30 p.m. in the Santikos Embassy 14 Theater (281 and Bitters Road) in San Antonio.

Presented by the Independent Television Service (ITVS) and KLRN, “The State of Arizona” captures the explosive emotions and complex realities behind Arizona’s headline-grabbing struggle with immigration issues. Following Arizona’s controversial Senate Bill 1070, dubbed the “show me your papers” law, the film tells the stories of Arizonans on all sides of this divisive issue from ground zero of the nation’s immigration debate. It is produced and directed by Carlos Sandoval and Catherine Tambini.

After the screening, guest panelists will lead a community discussion about immigration reform and the role it will play in determining who we are as a nation.

In addition to Dr. Ramirez, the panel will include Patricia Barbee, managing attorney at Davis Law Firm, Jason Buch, immigration and border affairs reporter at the San Antonio Express-News and Juan Tejeda,  instructor of Music and Mexican-American Studies at Palo Alto College.

“The State of Arizona” premieres on PBS’s “Independent Lens” on Monday, January 27, 2014, 9:00 p.m.-10:30 p.m. on KLRN.
