TAMIU Solo Faculty Piano Recital Tonight

Make plans to enjoy an evening listening to some of the most beautiful music ever written and performed at the upcoming Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) Solo Piano Faculty Recital Thursday, Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the TAMIU Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall. The recital features Dr. Fritz Gechter, TAMIU associate professor of piano and music.

Admission is free and open to the public.

The program for the evening includes Beethoven’s Sonata quasi una Fantasia in E-Flat Major, Op. 27, No. 1 and Sonata quasi una Fantasia in C-Sharp Minor (“Moonlight”), Op. 27, No. 2; Chopin’s Fantasy in F Minor, Op. 49; and three selections from Brahm’s 7 Fantasien (Fantasies), Op. 116.

Gechter has appeared as a soloist and collaborative artist in the U.S. and abroad. He appeared as a soloist with ensembles across the country, including the Spokane Symphony Orchestra, the Omaha Municipal Orchestra, the Laredo Philharmonic and the McAllen Symphonic Band and he made his European debut in 1996 while collaborating with his wife, Dr. Suzanne Ramo (soprano), in Germany.

He has been a gold medal winner of several piano concerto competitions and for the 2005-06 academic year, Gechter was awarded “Teacher of the Year” by the TAMIU College of Arts and Sciences.

A native of Seattle, Gechter received his bachelor of music in piano performance from Central Washington University and his M.M. and D.M. in piano performance from the University of Texas at Austin.
