Three Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) College of Education faculty members presented their research this January at the 12th Annual Hawaii International Conference (HICE) on Education. The Conference attracted over 1300 participants from 30-plus countries.

TAMIU faculty selected to present at the Conference were Dr. Randel Brown, associate professor and chair, department of professional programs; Dr. Diana Linn, associate professor and chair of the department of Curriculum and Pedagogy, and Dr. Won G. Kim, assistant professor, department of Curriculum and Pedagogy.

Dr. Brown was co-author with principal investigator Dr. Linn for “Developing Mathematical Skills in Students with Autism.”  Linn also presented research with co-author Dr. Terry Shepherd of Indiana University for “Universal Design for Classroom Management: Proactive, Active and Reactive Strategies for Inclusive Schools.”  Dr. Kim presented her research, “Long-Term English Language Learners’ Perception about Schooling Experience.”

Dr. Catheryn Weitman, TAMIU dean of the College of Education, said the opportunity for College faculty to present at international conferences advances the College’s research profile and enhances TAMIU student experiences.

“The HICE is one of the education field’s legacy international conferences and having our faculty selected to present is indeed an honor.  The opportunity for them to share research and interact with global peers also provides them with additional research exposure and experience that can be shared with TAMIU students,” Dr. Weitman said.

For over a decade HICE has brought academics from around the globe together to provide those with cross-disciplinary interests related to education an opportunity to meet and interact with others inside and outside their own discipline.
