Congressman Henry Cuellar (D-TX28) will address area middle and high school students participating in a four-day Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Alliance event with Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) March 26-29 at TAMIU.

Congressman Cuellar will join TAMIU Provost Dr. Pablo Arenaz and an astronaut from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to encourage participating students to consider a career in a STEM field.

“As students begin to consider what career path to choose, I encourage them to attend the STEM event and explore their options. It is important to provide increased support and learning opportunities so students are able to graduate and compete in a globally competitive workforce,” said Congressman Cuellar, “I am glad to see that my office was able to coordinate with TAMIU and host an important event that brings awareness to the students about a possible STEM career.”

TAMIU provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, Dr. Pablo Arenaz, concurred.

“This is a really a great opportunity for TAMIU to allow students to peek into futures possible through STEM:  from being an astronaut or an engineer to researching ways to better our collective lives, graduates in STEM fields have uncommonly bright futures.  We’re truly blessed to have hosted this event with Congressman Henry Cuellar for the past four years,” Dr. Arenaz said.

The four-day event includes a career fair, presentations from companies, universities, and government agencies, and a visit from a NASA astronaut. The event targets local Hispanic and female students as they are underrepresented in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
