Family fun and the Disney movie, “WALL-E” will be featured presentations at Texas A&M International University’s 9th Lamar Bruni Vergara Planetarium Anniversary celebration Saturday, April 12.

The celebration will take place from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. at the Planetarium and will include food, music, crafts, face paintings, and presentations by local dance teams. “WALL-E” show times will be every two hours, from 2 -8 p.m., with $3 general admission. Entrance to the event is free and open to the public.

Funds generated at the Anniversary will help support the Planetarium’s educational outreach initiatives, said Peter Davis, Planetarium director.

“For years, the community has supported our Planetarium through thousands of individual and school visits as well as birthdays and other social events,” Davis said, “As we celebrate this anniversary, we would like to encourage everyone to bring their families for a day of both outdoor and indoor fun as well as invite friends who might not yet be familiar with our impressive and modern facilities.”

The TAMIU Lamar Bruni Vergara Planetarium is a one of a kind teaching, learning and special occasion space located at TAMIU. The Planetarium is open to the public for shows, star gazing events, field trips and private functions. It is one of the most sophisticated planetariums in the State of Texas and operates a state-of-the-art digital projection system. Its technology allows not only a view from planet Earth, but from any part of the known universe, taking audiences to structures unseen, except by highly developed telescopes.

The Digistar 3 projectors use powerful graphics hardware and software to generate immersive full-dome images on the interior surface of a dome, integrating all-dome video, real-time 3D computer graphics, and a complete digital astronomy package.
