A Referendum funding Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) Athletics has passed 54% to 46% in an  online vote held April 7-9.  Among 5,802 eligible student voters, 405 voted, 219 (54.07%) for and 186 (45.92%) against.

The Referendum  was focused on funding the University’s Dustdevil Athletics program.  Student Government Association members noted that winning Dustdevil Athletics teams elevate the University’s profile and help secure its place among the State’s top universities.

The Referendum provides for an increase in the Athletics Fee from $17 a semester credit hour (SCH) to $21. It will take effect Fall 2014.

TAMIU president Dr. Ray Keck commended student voters for their engagement in the life of the University and for once again helping its programs to grow.

"Previous student-led Referendum efforts have helped the University to expand its Student Center complex twice and we are heartened by the outcome of this athletics-focused Referendum," Dr. Keck said.

The University recently dedicated a 7400-square foot computer lounge, part of an expansion funded by a Student Referendum passed in Spring 2012.
