Students gave top-notch ratings to the Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) Criminal Justice graduate program in GraduatePrograms.com rankings of top criminal justice schools and programs.

The Program, housed in the TAMIU College of Arts and Sciences (COAS) Department of Public Affairs and Social Research, ranked 5th for its online program and 19 overall.

It was the only University in the state to rate in the top 10 of online programs.

“We are very pleased with the rankings and feel they are reflective of the hard work, commitment and dedication of all our Criminal Justice faculty,” said Dr. Claudia E. San Miguel, chair, Department of Public Affairs and Social Research.

The Criminal Justice Graduate Program is one of the largest graduate programs at the University.

“With the implementation of flex scheduling, we have seen an increase in enrollment and we’re confident that this growth will continue,” explained Dr. San Miguel.

Dr. Frances Bernat, associate dean, COAS, said there was much work put into reorganizing and reformatting the graduate online degree for Criminal Justice.

“Two of the classes offered within the Criminal Justice program are certified,” said Dr. Bernat.

New faculty will join the Program Fall 2014.

“Our faculty are continuously developing new courses and this has allowed our program to branch out into different specialty area such as cybercrime, crime after disasters, victimology, and mentally ill offenders,” added San Miguel.

To learn more about the Criminal Justice Program, meet with Program representatives at the Graduate Studies Open House Tuesday, April 15 at 5:30 p.m. in the TAMIU Student Center Ballroom.
