Two Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) employees recently received their Professional Human Resources (PHR) certification. Jessica Palacios and Gracy Buentello, both associate directors, TAMIU Office of Human Resources, took and passed the certification exam.

Passing the exam shows a mastery of the body of knowledge required to successfully understand and perform HR-related duties.

Palacios is an active supporter for March of Dimes, Autism Awareness and Education Foundation, American Cancer Society and TAMIU Alumni Association. She has held several posts with the Laredo Association for Human Resource Management (LAHRM)—president, president-elect, program coordinator, treasurer and webmaster; and served as secretary for SHRM Texas State Council.

She is a graduate of Leadership Laredo and earned a B.B.A. in management from TAMIU. Palacios started working at TAMIU in 2002.

Buentello has also been employed at TAMIU since 2002. She has held several posts with the LAHRM including president, president elect, program coordinator and treasurer.

A graduate of Leadership Texas and Leadership Laredo, Buentello serves as the chair for the TAMIU Leadership Experience program and has served as an officer in the TAMIU Staff Senate. She is an active supporter of the American Cancer Society “Relay for Life” and “Pink to Do,” a breast cancer awareness association.

Buentello earned a B.B.A. in accounting from TAMIU and an M.S. in human resource management from Troy University.

PHR certification is a mark of high professional distinction and demonstrates mastery of the technical and operational aspects of HR practices, U.S. laws and regulations, and real-world application of forward-thinking HR practices, policies, and principles. The certification also affords ongoing professional development through recertification.
