TAMIU Sets Spring 2014 Commencement Ceremonies May 17

More than 580 candidates for graduation will participate in Spring Commencement at Texas A&M International University Saturday, May 17 in the Kinesiology and Convocation Building. Texas A&M University System Regent Charles Schwartz will be the commencement speaker for the 2014 graduating class.

Ceremonies begin at 8:30 a.m. with the College of Arts and Sciences—Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Arts and Applied Sciences, Bachelor of Science (biology, chemistry, environmental science and science), Master of Arts and Master of Science.

Ceremonies for the A. R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business and the College of Arts and Sciences—Bachelor of Science (math, systems engineering, and social studies), Bachelor of Criminal Justice, and Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies start at 11:30 a.m.

College of Education and College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Dr. F. M. Canseco School of Nursing ceremonies begin at 3 p.m.

An overflow area has been identified in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts’ Recital Hall.

Commencement speaker Schwartz was appointed to the Board of Regents by Gov. Rick Perry in 2013. He serves as chair of the Committee on Finance and as a member of the Committee on Academic and Student Affairs and Policy Review Committee.

He is a partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate Meagher & Flom LLP. He graduated from the University of Texas Law School in 1977 and Harvard Law School with an LL.M in 1980.

He was a director for the State Bar of Texas from 2000 to 2004 and served as chairman from 2002 to 2003. He is a Life Benefactor Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and a Sustaining Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and Houston Bar Foundation. He received the Dan Rugeley Price Memorial Award from the Texas Bar Foundation in 2004 and was appointed to the Texas Commission for Lawyer Discipline in 2008.

Schwartz has been recognized by numerous publications including Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, 2013 BTI Client Service All-Stars, Best Lawyers in America, and Texas Lawyer Go-To Guide.
