Two beloved members of the Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) faculty with a combined 40 years of service were feted at a retirement reception last week in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library’s Helen Richter Watson Gallery.

Dr. Bonnie Rudolph, professor and director of the College of Arts and Sciences’ Psychology Program and Dr. Miroslava Vargas, associate professor, College of Education, were joined by fellow faculty members, friends and family.

Dr. Rudolph first came to TAMIU in 2001 and was a powerful force in the building of the University’s popular psychology major and program.  At last week’s meeting of The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents, she was granted Professor Emeritus status by the Board.

Dr. Vargas first began her service to the University in 1993 and has been at the forefront of its bilingual education program, co-developing a Dual Language Lab and chairing an annual “Bilingual, Biliterate, Bicultural”  Conference.

TAMIU president Dr. Ray Keck joined College of Arts and Science Dean Dr. Tom Mitchell and College of Education Dean Dr. Catheryn Weitman in lauding the pair’s accomplishments.

“We are humbled by the breadth of their service, their research and their leadership and support of TAMIU students.  Together, they have helped thousands of TAMIU graduates to realize their possibilities. We will miss them tremendously,” Dr. Keck said.
