LPO Presents ‘Disney’ at LEA this August

The Laredo Phil will perform a concert of Disney music dubbed “Magical Music of Disney” at the Laredo Energy Arena (LEA) on Aug. 23, 2014, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are now on sale at the LEA and Ticketmaster.

Music from early classics to recent releases will take audiences on a musical journey to far off places where the stories, tales and myths of many cultures have originated. The program incorporates musical performances from Disney’s animated films including The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Mary Poppins, Tarzan and six other timeless classics.

Disney Music Publishing, which has licensed the music to orchestras worldwide since 1992, provides this concert of symphonic arrangements from The Walt Disney Studio archives.

“The rich and exciting musical scores that are an integral part of each movie has always been a major part of the magic of all Disney films over the years,” said Brendan Townsend, Laredo Phil music director.

“Magical Music of Disney” is a concert for the whole family. Audiences will enjoy a unique experience with timeless animated images synchronized with music, transporting them to their favorite Disney musical moment. 

Over the past three years, some 38 orchestras in 25 States and nine countries have performed this concert of symphonic arrangements to over 70,000 people.

The synchronized images feature classic moments from Rescuers Down Under, Aladdin, Mulan and others, all projected on a large movie screen behind the orchestra, bringing the music to life in a unique manner.

“The focus is on the timeless music of the films, but the images bring the film to life,” Townsend observed.

This is a uniquely family-oriented concert with tickets ranging in price from $15 to $35. An instrument petting zoo, life-sized characters, artwork by area youth, and added entertainment by local bands will provide a unique atmosphere.
