TAMIU Ranks Sixth in Nation for Lowest Net Price
According to figures released by the College Affordability and Transparency Center, a project of the U.S. Department of Education, Texas A&M International University is sixth in the nation for lowest net price among public four-year universities.
Net price is the cost of attendance minus grant and scholarship aid for full-time beginning students. At TAMIU, the net price for the Report was $1,195. The national average exceeded $11,000.
The only other Texas college or university in the Top Ten of Lowest Net Price Public Four-Year institutions was the University of Texas-Pan American, ranked eighth.
The 2014 listing is compiled by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), part of the U.S. Department of Education, using the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS).
In the 2013 Report, TAMIU ranked 10th in the nation with a net price of $2,279 per semester. The national average was $10,863.
TAMIU president Dr. Ray Keck said the repeat finding reaffirms the University’s commitment to making higher education affordable and accessible.
“Just as in the previous reports, despite the challenges of our economy and reduced State funding, we maintain our commitment to our students to provide an excellent education at an affordable and accessible price. This Fall, we will launch our Fixed Tuition and Fee Plan, enabling students and families to further lock in low cost higher education with fixed tuition and fees, ” Dr. Keck said.
The average net price is generated by subtracting the average amount of federal, state/local government or institutional grant or scholarship aid from the total cost of attendance. Total cost of attendance is the sum of published tuition and required frees (lower or in-district or in-State, where applicable), books and supplies and the weighted average for room and board and other expenses.
Average net price is for full-time beginning undergraduate students who received grant or scholarship aid from federal, state or local governments or the institution itself.
Started in 2011 as a requirement of the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the College Affordability and Transparency Center listing is part of an ongoing effort to provide students and their families with information critical to college destination decision-making.
TAMIU’s Summer Session II begins Monday, July 14. Registration for Fall is now underway. Fall classes start Wednesday, Aug. 27.
Beginning this Fall, TAMIU undergraduate students will be able to lock in the cost of their higher education with fixed tuition and fees.
The Fixed Tuition and Fee Plan was mandated by the Regents of The Texas A&M University System earlier this year and is automatically available to all Texas resident undergraduate students at all System universities, including TAMIU.
The Fixed Tuition and Fee Plan guarantees tuition and fees for four years for most majors for a total of 12 consecutive semesters.
