TAMIU Fall Semester Starts Wednesday

The first day of classes for Fall 2014 at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is Wednesday, Aug. 27.

This will be the first semester that TAMIU implements its Fixed Tuition and Fee Plan, with undergraduate, Texas resident students able to lock in the cost of their higher education with fixed tuition and fees. The Fixed Tuition and Fee Plan guarantees tuition and fees for four years for most majors for a total of 12 consecutive semesters. 

Just this week, The Chronicle of Higher Education named Texas TAMIU among the nation’s fastest-growing public master’s institutions in its “Almanac of Higher Education 2014.”

TAMIU was ranked eighth in the nation in recognition of its 93.7% enrollment growth.  It was the only Texas A&M University System campus included in the Public Master’s Institutions category and only the second Texas institution recognized in the Top 20.  TAMIU was also ranked in the 2013 Almanac edition.

Earlier this summer, according to figures released by the College Affordability and Transparency Center, a project of the U.S. Department of Education, TAMIU was sixth in the nation for lowest net price among public four-year universities. Net price is the cost of attendance minus grant and scholarship aid for full-time beginning students. At TAMIU, the net price for the Report was $1,195. The national average exceeded $11,000.

Fall TAMIU students are also returning to a campus that has impressed State officials with its student retention.

At TAMIU, the retention rate for students remaining in higher education is almost 87% (86.50%), among the highest of The Texas A&M University System’s regional campuses.  The retention rate for those returning students remaining at TAMIU is 74.10%, according to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s Accountability System.  Texas’ state average for student retention is about 73%.

The campus has also launched three new student programs enhancing TAMIU’s learning environment and on-campus safety:  Haven, Green Dot and Safe Zone.

Last Spring, the University implemented dynamic scheduling, allowing students greater flexibility to compress and shorten some undergraduate and graduate courses for specific programs.

Late registration, with late fees applied after Aug. 26, continues through Friday, Aug. 29.
