Laredo Asian Association Provides TAMIU Student Scholarships

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) students and those traveling to study in Asian countries have a strong supporter in the Laredo Asian Association.

The Association donated $17,000 for TAMIU scholarships Wednesday. Since 2009, the Association has hosted the Asian Night reception every Fall and from its proceeds awarded scholarship funds to TAMIU, totaling $75,000 to date.

The funds benefit TAMIU students studying in Asian countries or Asian undergraduate and graduate students who attend TAMIU and need financial assistance.

Past recipients of the scholarship include Marco Antonio Dimas, Dheeraj Goud Muthyampet, Yumiko Naito, Naim Jael Aldana, Grecia Mariel Benavides Chapa, Karla Georgette López, Veronica Mata Gómez, Clarissa Solíz, Carlos DeJesús Díaz, José Arturo Gutiérrez, Eun Hyan Lee, Sergio Pérez, Oscar Pompa and Uriel Domínguez.

Of the recipients, five have traveled to China including Dimas, Díaz, Gutiérrez, Pompa and Domínguez.
