New Agreement Offers TAMIU Pre-Engineering Students Additional Study Opportunities at TAMUK

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) and Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK) have recently signed an articulation agreement that will facilitate the transfer of TAMIU’s pre-engineering students to TAMUK’s Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering.

The agreement was recently signed at TAMIU with Dr. Rex Gandy, provost and vice president of Academic Affairs and Dr. Stephan Nix, dean of the College of Engineering representing TAMUK and Dr. Pablo Arenaz, provost, vice president of Academic Affairs as well as Dr. Thomas Mitchell, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences representing TAMIU.

The agreement is designed to facilitate and provide an opportunity for students in the TAMIU Pre-Engineering Program to transfer to various fields of engineering offered by the undergraduate engineering program at TAMUK.

TAMIU students can now start in the Pre-Engineering Program at TAMIU and upon completing required courses, continue their undergraduate studies at TAMUK to pursue a bachelor of science degree in fields including Architectural Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Natural Gas Engineering.

“This articulation agreement will benefit both participating universities,” said Dr. Gandy, “By providing the students of South Texas with more engineering degree completion options, it will help meet the growing state and national need for well-trained engineers.”
Dr. Arenaz said the agreement provides a new option for students pursuing an engineering degree.

“This articulation agreement is another example of the cooperation between universities in the Texas A&M University System,” Dr. Arenaz said, “By entering into the agreement, students from TAMIU who are interested in certain engineering disciplines will have an additional option to complete their degree.”

The agreement also allows students from TAMUK to transfer into TAMIU’s Systems Engineering program, Arenaz said.

“We look forward to working with Kingsville in implementing this agreement,” Arenaz said.

Signed between the TAMIU Department of Engineering, Mathematics, and Physics and the TAMUK Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering, the agreement also states that courses listed under the course map set by both universities are transferable to TAMUK and satisfy the indicated courses in the various TAMUK Bachelor of Science engineering degree programs.

Completion of all requirements of the TAMIU core curriculum will satisfy all TAMUK core curriculum requirements, the agreement states. However, a TAMIU student transferring to TAMUK before completion of the TAMIU core curriculum will be subject to a course-by-course evaluation of his or her transcript for acceptance by TAMUK and fulfillment of the TAMUK core curriculum requirements.
 TAMIU students wishing to transfer must apply for admission to TAMUK and meet all University and College of Engineering admission requirements.

All students, including students intending to transfer from TAMIU are strongly encouraged to work closely with his or her TAMIU academic advisor and the TAMUK College of Engineering academic advisor to ensure timely completion of all bachelor of science degree requirements and adherence to all provisions of the articulation agreement.
