TAMIU iServe Fair Encourages Student Volunteerism Sept. 3

Volunteerism and service will be the focus of an annual Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) fair connecting University students to various non-profit organizations seeking help.

The TAMIU iServe Fair is Wednesday, Sept. 3 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Student Center Rotunda.

A total of 24 local non-profit agencies are participating in the event.

“Agencies showcase their volunteer, advocacy and service-learning opportunities at this event.  Students can find service opportunities that match their interest, major and career goals,” said Mayra Hernández, TAMIU director of Student Conduct and Community Engagement, “The organizations seek students to work on issues such as poverty, hunger, violence prevention and awareness, health and education.”

Agencies participating include Casa Voz de Niños, TAMIU Office of Continuing Education, Ruthe B. Cowl Rehabilitation Center, the Washington Birthday Celebration Association, Casa de Misericordia, Mercy Ministries of Laredo, Literacy Volunteers of Laredo, SCAN, Laredo Main Street, Habitat for Humanity, Azteca Economic Development and Preservation Corporation, Keep Laredo Beautiful, Pet Haven, PILLAR, Special Olympics, Webb County Heritage Foundation, Volunteers Serving the Need, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of South Texas, Webb County Sheriff’s Department’s Share a Bear Campaign, the South Texas Food Bank, American Red Cross, Webb County Freedom Riders, Children’s Advocacy Center and Youth Leadership Laredo.

All local non-profit organizations are invited to participate in the TAMIU iServe Fair. Currently, eight additional spaces available, Hernández said.
