TAMIU Making Moves in 2015 National Rankings

Laredo’s Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is moving up in rankings just published by U.S. News and World Report in its  “2015 Best Colleges Rankings.”

TAMIU was ranked No. 20 in Top Public Schools Regional Universities, West, up from last year’s ranking of 35.  Approximately 1800 universities were surveyed.

The Report considers schools like TAMIU as “typically operated under the supervision of state governments funded, in part, by tax dollars and subsidies from the state.”

TAMIU was also ranked 63 among Best Regional Universities West, up from the 2013 ranking of 87.

The Report noted that Regional Universities ranked “offer a broad scope of undergraduate degrees, some master's degree programs and a few doctoral programs.”

The Report, based on 2013 data, also highlighted interesting components of TAMIU’s ranked profile: the average freshman retention rate is 72%. The student-faculty ratio is 22:1 and the gender distribution is 42% male and 58% female.  The authors’ methodology did not alter from that used for the 2013 Report.

TAMIU president Dr. Ray Keck said the University is honored by the “2015 Best Colleges Rankings” recognition affirming programs delivered by its gifted faculty for its dedicated student body.

“It is tremendous to have our faculty’s efforts on behalf of our students recognized, but, of course, we seek continued and greater excellence still. Our students’ futures remain the primary beneficiary of this commitment,” Dr. Keck said.

Among other recent accolades accorded to TAMIU:

• TAMIU is sixth in the nation for lowest net price among public four-year universities, according to figures released by the College Affordability and Transparency Center, a project of the U.S. Department of Education.
• For the second year in a row, The Chronicle of Higher Education named TAMIU among the nation’s fastest-growing public master’s institutions, ranking it No. 8 in its “Almanac of Higher Education 2014.”
• The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s Accountability System indicated that TAMIU’s current student retention rate is higher than state and national norms: almost 87% for students remaining in higher education, among the highest for The Texas A&M University System’s regional campuses.
