One City, One Book Author at TAMIU Friday

The Texas A&M International University common reading program, “Reading the Globe,” examines genocide in Bosnia through the experiences of featured author, Jasmina Dervisevic-Cesic.  She is the author of this year’s common read book, “The River Runs Salt, Runs Sweet—A Young Woman’s Story of Love, Loss and Survival.”

Dervisevic-Cesic will be on campus to share her story Friday, Oct. 10 from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall.

Admission is open to all TAMIU freshmen, UNIV students, faculty and staff.

The general public is invited to hear Dervisevic-Cesic speak at the Laredo Public Library, 1120 E. Calton Road, Saturday, Oct. 11 at 10:30 a.m.

Dervisevic-Cesic was born and raised in Visegrad, Bosnia and Herzegovinia, formerly Yugoslavia. She moved to the U.S. in 1993 after escaping from Sarajevo and became the first Bosnian refugee granted permission to seek medical care in the U.S. for a prosthesis for her right arm and treatment of wounds on her legs. She lost her husband, two brothers, uncle, grandmother, and countless friends.
