‘The Nutcracker’ Now Showing @ TAMIU

"The Nutcracker" has come to town, bringing a time-honored holiday tradition in most other cities home to Laredo.

For the first time Peter Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker”  will be offered in a historic presentation pairing professional and local ballet dancers with a live iconic music score performed by the Laredo Phil. Mejia Ballet International has brought the beloved ballet to life at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU).

Performances are underway at TAMIU Thursday, Dec. 4 – Sunday, Dec. 7 at the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Theatre.

Tickets range from $20 - $100.

Show times are:

  • Thursday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m.
  • Friday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, Dec. 6 at 2 and 7 p.m.
  • Sunday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m.

This production of “The Nutcracker” is choreographed and directed by founder of Mejia Ballet International, Paul Mejia, a well-recognized name in ballet. Mejia is a former principal dancer under the famous choreographer George Balanchine at New York City Ballet. His production of “The Nutcracker” continues the holiday tradition of this very popular ballet.

Russian prima ballerina Olga Pavlova, who has been hailed at “The New Pavolva” by Dance Magazine, referring to the famous Russian ballerina Anna Pavolova, will bring to life the delicate Sugar Plum Fairy.

Pavlova graduated from the famed Bolshoi Ballet Academy and holds a master’s degree in teaching and choreography from the Moscow Academy of Professional Arts. She won the Gold Medal and first prize at the International Ballet Competition in St. Petersburg. Pavlova has toured to over 30 countries with the legendary Maya Plisetskaya and has worked with numerous noted choreographers. Her repertoire includes principal roles in over 50 classical and contemporary ballets.

Tickets will also be available for sale one hour prior to each performance.
