Musicians Martin and Artina McCain, also husband and wife, perform Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015, at 7: 30 p.m. in Texas A&M International University’s Center for the Fine & Performing Arts Recital Hall as part of the “Master Performers @ TAMIU Series.”

Admission is free of charge and open to the public. The program on Thursday will continue the duo’s unique brand of programming, including works by American and Cuban composers, as well as a jazz set for solo piano.

The Master Performers@TAMIU series is underwritten by the Fernando A. Salinas Charitable Trust and TAMIU’s Housing & Residential Life.

Known for their eclectic programming, the McCain duo present programs of rhythmic, musical and colorful artistry. The marriage of bass trombone (Martin)  and piano (Artina) is a dynamic pairing, providing repertoire of wide versatility and variety for the concert venue.

The Duo enjoys multifaceted careers as concert performers, recording artists, educators and arts entrepreneurs. They perform nationally and internationally at festivals, concert series and universities.

They have toured Zagreb, Hong Kong, Austin, and many other U.S. cities. Their recordings have been broadcast in Macau, China, Arizona, KMFA Classically Austin, Canada and Chicago’s WHPK.

In addition to their performing careers, the McCain’s have a passion for commissioning and performing new works by up and coming contemporary composers. Their program, Raise the Bar, brought professional concerts to over 1,000 Texas youth.

In 2012, they released the album Trombone Czar, which has been hailed as “enjoyable” (Geoff Appleton, Australia) and “we can recommend it without reservation”-africlassical.com. Their most recent collaboration, Shades, won two Global Music Awards:  Gold for Best Instrumentalist (Martin McCain) and Bronze for Album.
