A rare and historic opportunity for students to partake in Mariachi workshops and a public concert with México’s revered Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán de Guadalajara is being hosted by Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) April 13-15.

Dubbed the First Annual International Mariachi Workshop and Concert, the event will draw mariachi music students from local and surrounding areas to workshops conducted by the Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán’s musical director, Fernando Martínez and the entire Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán. The workshops are limited in admission and will include sectional and private lessons, group critiques, a meet and greet, goodie bags and special scholarship opportunities.

At the culmination of the series of workshops, students will have an opportunity to be part of a special public performance and concert with the Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán on Wednesday, April 15 at 7 p.m.

Concert tickets are now available for $35 and $25.

The Mariachi Tecalitlán is the University’s first participant in its Artist in Residence Program, part of an innovative collaboration launched last October.  The agreement and residency provide for an array of mariachi music learning and outreach activities at the University and in the community.
