Texas A&M International University’s Hispanic Heritage Concert Series presents the legendary Los Tres Reyes in concert this Sunday, May 3 at 3 p.m. in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall.

Admission is $15 and proceeds benefit student scholarships.

Los Tres Reyes, considered the last of the great trios of the golden age of Mexican boleros, are Gilberto Puente, Raúl Puente and Bebo Cardenas.

Jerry Quintero, TAMIU visiting instructor and Series organizer, said the Series promotes music which makes the music of South Texas unique.

“From the Trio Romantico to the festive sounds of the mariachi, accordion riffs of the conjunto and the heart and soul of the Tejano orchestra, these sounds have instilled a tradition within our culture which must be preserved,” Quintero explained.

Quintero said Sunday’s performance by Los Tres Reyes will feature romantic trio music under the direction of Gilberto Puente, considered to be the best requintista in the world by international music critics.

Los Tres Reyes began recording in 1957. Their international hits have reached gold status with 10 million copies in record sales.  Raúl and Gilberto Puente are twin brothers. Cardenas is originally from Matanzas, Cuba.
