TAMIU Masters Performers Series Gets NEA Funding

More world-renowned musicians will be headed to Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) thanks to a $10,000 National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Challenge America Grant.

“This money will be allocated to the Master Performers @ TAMIU Recital Series and associated master classes for a combined match of $20,000 to be spent bringing recitalists to Laredo in 2015,” said Brendan Townsend, director of music programs / assistant professor, music.

The Master Performers @ TAMIU is the latest series offered by the TAMIU College of Arts and Sciences Department of Fine and Performing Arts.

“This is huge news for our department. TAMIU has never received any funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. Having received one such grant, it is expected that more grants through NEA can be applied for, and this grant is offered every year, so this may be just the first of many,” he added.

The series was launched in September 2013 and has featured internationally acclaimed musicians. It replaced and expanded on the Steinway Series and the Organ Recital Series.
