Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) will join in a national observance focused on Sexual Assault Awareness on Thursday, April 9 from 6:30- 9 p.m. on the Green between the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts and the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center.

Admission is free and open to the public.

“Take Back the Night:  There’s Always a Light” will be offered for the first time and is coordinated by the University’s Office of Student Affairs.

San Juanita Perez, associate director of Student Success Services and event organizer along with a dedicated Student Committee, said “Take Back the Night” is designed to direct attention to Sexual Assault Awareness.

“Across the world, people observe ‘Take Back the Night,’ gathering to initiate activities and discussions focused on eliminating sexual and domestic violence in all forms.  Thousands of colleges, including TAMIU, join in hosting events that offer a beacon of hope, and affirm the institution’s commitment to make sure that such behaviors are not tolerated on our campus,” Perez said.

Attendees will find the April 9 event to offer a fair-like combination of both information and activities including student organizations selling food items and hosting fun games.  Agencies, including SCAN, Inc.’s SASI program and NO MORE.org of Laredo will be present and musical performances provided.
