Two Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) business student organizations were recognized for their exemplary contribution to the A. R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business at a special reception Tuesday, May 12 in the Western Hemispheric Trade Center Foyer.

The organizations, ENACTUS and the A.R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business Dean’s Student Advisory Council, were honored for their service and dedication to the projects they undertake as well as representing the Sanchez School of Business in everything they do.

ENACTUS is a community of student, academic and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to enable human progress. ENACTUS students apply business concepts and develop community outreach projects, transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world.

The Student Advisory Council is an organization that allows students in the School of Business to have direct communication and input with School decisions and upcoming projects.

Students recognized for their involvement in ENACTUS include Janette Campos, Mario Candiani, David Canseco, Jesús Cavazos, Vanessa García, Arely Hernández, Pedro Macías, Yesenia Macías, Luz Mota, Rebecca Quintanilla, Grecia Ramos, Daniela Reyna, Kayla Vásquez, and José Velásquez.

Sanchez School Dean’s Student Advisory Council students receiving recognition included Kazandra Alemán, Jeanette Campos, Mirela Canales, Selene Cuevas, Lorena Fernández, Daniel Jiménez, Yesenia Macías, Karina Neira, Carlos Ojeda, Rebecca Quintanilla, Francisco Ruíz, Genesis Valdéz, and Kayla Vásquez.

ENACTUS embarked on several initiatives this year including the “Helping Hands Project,” sponsored by the Sam’s Club Set Up for Small Business Grant.

In the project, ENACTUS helped struggling local small business that needed assistance with management skills, inventory control and marketing techniques. A second project, “Empowering Dreams,” sponsored by the Coca Cola Foundation, helped a local business owner create databases, set up a payroll system and promote it by creating a logo and sign. Others included “Stand Up for Women,” sponsored by the Wal-Mart, Grant, “Understanding Disabilities,” and a project with the Laredo Animal Protective Society.

For their part, the School of Business Student Advisory Council worked on a project known as “Pizza with the Dean,” an opportunity for dialogue between the business student community and the School of Business dean.

They also created “Kiss the Pig,” a fundraiser activity which brings about unity for the business student community. Other projects included “Lunch with a Professor,” company field trips, fall mixers and fundraising activities.
