Affordable Colleges Online, an authoritative resource dedicated to online learning and college affordability, has published its annual rankings of the Best In State Online Colleges for 2015. Laredo’s Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) ranked 22 out of 118 colleges surveyed that offer full online programs.

"As online classes become more prevalent, it is important to acknowledge the colleges and universities that go above and beyond,” said Dan Schuessler, founder and CEO of Affordable Colleges Online. Our goal is to highlight these schools and their commitment to higher education.  Students have many options when choosing an online degree program; these represent the best in outstanding academic programs and support services.

"When it comes to online learning, these schools set the bar," Schuessler added, “These programs have made attending college accessible and affordable while maintaining rigorous academic standards of excellence and providing support services for their students.”

Among criteria used to determine the rankings were student-teacher ratio, financial aid and cost.

TAMIU’s online programs include an RN to BSN, a Master of Science in Criminal Justice, an MBA with a concentration in International Business, a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction and a Master of Public Administration.

AC Online’s profile for TAMIU notes, “faculty are top-notch educators adept at online teaching. Each has substantial research expertise that also taps into the unique location, cultural confluences and the international experience that infuses programs. These strengths, combined with low cost and flexible entry, are proving most attractive to students.”

TAMIU president Dr. Ray Keck said the honor is a testament to the commitment of the University’s faculty, its dedicated instructional technology and distance education teams and its nimble responsiveness.

“We pride ourselves on creating relevant, cost-efficient programs that address both the needs and desires of our students.  Our online degree offerings are a dynamic growth area and having our efforts recognized endorses our efforts and our teams’ commitment to our students,” Dr. Keck said.

TAMIU outranked much larger universities such as the University of Texas at El Paso, University of Houston-Downtown and UH-Clearlake, among others.

Affordable Colleges Online research indicates that Texas is second in the nation in the number of institutions offering online degree programs. In Texas, online degree programs are designed to provide the same academic quality and rigor as their campus-based equivalents, but with the flexibility and convenience of 24/7 remote access.
