The start of the Fall semester is less than three weeks away and Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) has prepared two weeks of events and activities to welcome students to the new semester. TAMIU Welcome Week 2015 kicks off Tuesday, Aug. 18 and Involvement Week 2015 starts Monday, Aug. 24.

All events are free and open to TAMIU students.

Welcome Week 2015 begins with “Welcome Back BBQ” Tuesday, Aug. 18 from 6 – 9 p.m. in the TAMIU Residential Learning Center and Clubhouse. There will be free food and music. The event is sponsored by the TAMIU Office of Student Orientation (SOLE), Leadership and Engagement, Campus Activities Board, Greek Council and the Department of Housing and Residence Life.

Students will have the opportunity to receive their very own custom tile at the “Custom Tiles and Information Tent” Wednesday, Aug. 19 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the area between Dr. F.M. Canseco Hall (CH) and Anthony J. and Georgia A. Pellegrino Hall (PH).

Damon Brown, spray can artist, will be at TAMIU in the area between CH and PH Thursday, Aug. 20 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Students can enjoy a free show and take home a piece of art, while supplies last, for their home or residence hall.

Also on campus Thursday is comedian and magician Brian Miller. Miller will perform in the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts Recital Hall from 7 – 9 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 20.

During the following week, from Monday, Aug. 24 – Thursday, Aug. 27, known as “Involvement Week,” students have the opportunity to learn how to become involved in any of 90+ campus organizations. All events take place in the Student Center rotunda.

During “Take the Next Step!” on Monday, Aug. 24, students can visit with various leadership programs and learn how to become a well rounded and prepared TAMIU graduate.

The “Student Organization Fair” will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 25. Students will be able to visit with dozens of student organizations. This event is sponsored by SOLE and the TAMIU Student Government Association.

During “Community Service Fair,” sponsored by the Office of Student Conduct and Community Engagement, students can connect with agencies from the community looking for volunteers. This event is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 26.

The weeklong event concludes with a Study Abroad Fair, Thursday, Aug. 27. This will be a one-stop-shop for international engagement. Students are invited to meet with other students who have traveled abroad and start planning their own experience.
